A fiber optic splice closure, which consists of an enclosure and associated
hardware, restores the mechanical and environmental integrity of an optical
fiber cable following a splicing operation. In addition, a splice closure
provides the necessary facilities for organizing and storing optical fiber
and splices.
There are two principal configurations for
splice closures:
• Butt Closures permit cables to enter the closure
from one end only.
• In-Line Closures provide for the entry of cables
at both ends of the closure.
Both closure configurations can be used for branch splicing applications.
